Privacy advocates, technologists, and corporations to shape the future of Computers, Freedom and Privacy in a Networked Society
Google Chief Legal Officer David Drummond and Microsoft Chief Privacy Strategist Peter Cullen will keynote at the 20th annual ACM Computers Freedom and Privacy Conference along with privacy advocates and civil libertarians from organizations including EFF, EPIC, the ACLU, Future of Privacy Forum, CDT, World Privacy Forum and Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.
The 2010 conference from June 15th-18th at San Jose State University marks CFP's first return to the Bay Area since 2004. Californians are on the cutting edge of technology policy and issues: privacy and apps on smartphones and social networks, healthcare information exchanges, the Smart Grid, robots and the business value of privacy and free speech.
"These technologies are transforming our world and it's an open question how much freedom and privacy we'll have in this networked society," says conference co-chair Jon Pincus of Qworky. "CFP is creating an great opportunity to chart a path forward by bringing together a unique mix of the consumer advocacy, business, technology, policy, legal and activist communities in Silicon Valley, where so many companies are creating the future."
The conference kicks off Tuesday June 15 with privacy advocates Nicole Ozer of the Northern California ACLU and Beth Givens of Privacy Rights Clearinghouse leading opening panels on Privacy and Free Speech: It's Good for Business and Online Information Brokers and Privacy: Where’s the Balance?. The afternoon features a technology fair and sessions including sessions including Investing in Privacy, The Internet of things and a workshop on Foundations of Trust Online.
On Wednesday afternoon, professional unconference facilitator Kaliya Hamlin will lead the first Unconference on Computers, Freedom and Privacy. Attendees will create the agenda live, and split into smaller groups for discussions of how to protect freedom and privacy online. Thursday afternoon, graduate students will present their research at a poster session. The rest of the program features a wide range of topics, and evenings give time for "Dine Around Town" discussions over dinner and smaller-group " birds of a feather" roundtable sessions.
Dynamite ending! closing quote from Dorothy -- something about the time for networking, the quality of the program, and/or what she hopes will happen?
